Atmospheric crankcase vent?

Hello, i have a car with a single point injection petrol engine with a catalic converter and i am thinking of putting a K+N or similar induction kit on it, the crankcase is currently vented into the stock airbox, if i put a small filter on the hose apart from poluting and being a mot failure in the uk are there any advantages or disadvantages of venting it into the atmosphere?
