What happens if I write checks out of order?

I seldom write checks, but I need to in this situation. The bank I used sent me a box of 2 checkbooks. I wrote 2 checks in the first one and haven't used it in a while. I left it at home in California while I went back to school in Miami. I will most likely need to write a check again, but all I have is the 2nd checkbook the bank sent me. Will I get in trouble if I write the check from the 2nd checkbook instead of the 3rd check from the 1st one? (I feel completely stupid asking this. And I'm in college! I wish they would have taught us basic finance like this in high school.)
